Jeremy Deedes will be taking part, for the 10th consecutive time, in the Great North Run half-marathon on Sunday 18th September and will again be running in aid of Mary's Meals (www.marysmeals.org.uk). Ampleforth has done much to support Mary’s Meals in recent years, and many of the wider Ampleforth community will be aware that it is a high impact charity that aims to improve the long-term living standards and quality of life of the poorest regions of the world by the simple strategy of giving children a square meal in school. In the short term this both encourages attendance and provides children with a full tummy on which to learn. In the longer term, a generation of children will leave school educated and equipped to deal with their country's problems.

The charity is highly efficient and 95p in every £1 donated gets to the sharp end.

Please help vulnerable children escape a lifetime of poverty by sponsoring Jeremy. Just £6.15 (£5.12 net of charitable donation tax relief) feeds a child in school for a year. £7,000 (£5,833 net of charitable donation tax relief) will build a kitchen attached to a school and transform a local area. Jeremy has already raised nearly £2,000 towards this target.
