Carpenters Arms, Felixkirk - Pub of the Year!
Michael Ibbotson (H89) has done it again and won Pub of the Year with his latest venture The Carpenters Arms; just in time for the pubs first anniversary.
"The Carpenters Arms is a North Yorkshire Inn set in the beautiful village of Felixkirk. The Inn has a wonderful traditional bar, stocked with local beers, hand pulled ales and a considered wine list. The bar also accommodates informal dining, with large wooden tables and roaring open fires. The restaurant is located overlooking open fields and the North Yorkshire hills and provides a spectacular backdrop for a relaxed and delicious meal"

Michael has been in the pub industry for 20 years and over the years has been awarded numerous awards, notably: The Publican's Freehouse of the Year 2008, AA Pub of the Year England 2007-8, Yorkshire Life Traditional Pub of the Year 2008 and Yorkshire Tourist Board's White Rose Award for Yorkshire Pub of the Year 2008.
Michael is also the co-founder of Provenance Inns which currently runs two other pubs: The Durham Ox in Crayke and the Oak Tree Inn, Helperby which opened in March 2011; the second ‘Inns in Villages you’d like to live in’. Michael and co-director Chris Blundell are two men who call Yorkshire home and share a passion for quality fresh food. After considerable experience and success in the business world and the food industry, both Michael and Chris returned to their North Yorkshire roots and launched Provenance Inns in July 2010. As the name suggests, the focus of the business is on the provenance of not just the food and drink, but also the provenance of the buildings, architecture, local communities, local trades, produce and recipes, for each of the individual inns within the collection.
Congratulations Michael, Sasha & co. from all at Ampleforth!
