Old Amplefordian Sailing Club
The Arrow Trophy 11-12 October 2008
On Tuesday 7 October 2008 the Old Amplefordian Sailing Club (OASC) was formed at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in London. The following weekend the OASC participated in the Arrow Trophy regatta off Cowes, Isle of Wight. The Arrow Trophy is a regatta held for old boys’ sailing clubs of various schools and at the regatta there were 23 entries including teams from Uppingham, Wellington, Eton and Rugby. Light winds prevailed throughout the weekend and the OASC’s first bid for the trophy was deemed to be a considerable success: Ampleforth recorded an overall position of 7th and were 3rd in the fleet racing element of the regatta; Rugby were the overall winners of the trophy. The OAs will be returning in 2009 and, with the benefit of this year’s experience, hope to improve on the result. The founding members of the OASC were: Jeremy Tolhurst (Commodore) (C92), Patrick Tolhurst (Secretary) (C99), James Brady (T92), Thomas Foster (H99), Luke Poloniecki (H99), Henry Foster (H00), Matthew Nesbit (Cabin Boy) (H00) and Philip Tolhurst (Old Beaumont).
